ABOUT THE EXPEDITION

Greenland is an incredible place. It will inspire you, fire your imagination and fulfill even your wildest photographic ambitions.

It's home to some of the world’s most extraordinary geology. Ice and water have shaped the landscape over thousands of years. The scarred red and orange rock contrasts with the electric blue icebergs that calve off its many glaciers and drift slowly down its deep fjords.

Join us on a Greenland photo tour with our expert team! East Greenland is one of the best places in the Arctic to photograph breathtaking landscapes and massive icebergs. We will use the expedition ship MV Polar Pioneer to explore the world’s largest fjord system – Scoresby Sound. The main subjects on this Greenland photo tour will be grand landscapes, icebergs and Arctic wildlife.

September is a great time in the Arctic when the autumn light is at its best. This Greenland photo tour will schedule for longer stops than usual when going ashore in order to provide participants with enough time to get excellent pictures. We use 5 zodiac boats for landings or when searching for the wildlife at sea. There will be maximum 53 guests on this expedition.

East Greenland is famous for massive icebergs and grand landscapes, but does not have the density of wildlife as we normally see on Svalbard. However, there are good possibilities for photographing Arctic hare, seals, seabirds, and maybe also Musk Ox and Polar bear.

We also plan to visit the native village Ittoqqortoormiit, home to some 450 Greenlanders and the only settlement in Northeast Greenland.

THE INTINERARY

We will schedule this Greenland photo tour in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. Our captain is an expert navigator in Arctic conditions. He is an important advisor in planning the expedition in a manner that allows us to maximize the photo opportunities and enjoyment of this trip.

  • Day 0 (04.09) We recommend to arrive Iceland at least one day in advance.

  • Day 1 (05.09) Departure from Akureyri, Iceland heading toward Greenland.

  • Day 2 (06.09) At sea heading toward Greenland.

  • Day 3 (07.09) – Day 9 (13.09) Exploring the Scoresby Sound fjord system – the world’s largest fjord system. This area offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the Arctic with jagged mountains, large glaciers and some of the largest and most beautiful icebergs. We plan to circumnavigate Milne Land, the second largest island in Greenland, and explore and photograph in areas like the spectacular Føhn Fjord, Hare Fjord, Røde Fjord and Ø Fjord.

  • Day 10 (14.09) At sea heading toward Iceland.

  • Day 11 (15.09) Arriving Akureyri, Iceland

On this Greenland photo tour our main focus is photography, and we will have several excursions going ashore. We will also be cruising in between icebergs, shooting wildlife and spend time at especially interesting places.
