Send me an email if you want to be notified of openings or when the 2011 workshop is announced
This workshop will focus on the landscape of eastern and northern Iceland. It is for dedicated landscape photographers who are willing to put work into their images. This workshop is about photography and lots of it. There will be no formal classroom sessions, no lectures and no slide shows. Participants and the group leader will work side by side, sharing their knowledge, vision, philosophy and experience. A small group of participants (max. 7) guarantees a more personal and intimate experience than bigger tours can provide. This is a unique opportunity to travel and photograph with an experienced professional who has more than 20 years of photography experience in Iceland and can take you to the best locations that are off the beaten track, and at the right time – when the light is best. Iceland borders the Arctic Circle and receives about 20 hours of daylight at this time of the year. Photography in Iceland during the summer can be hard work and challenging, but great fun and very rewarding. It is an adventure unlike any other!
Location highlights include the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, Vatnajokull National Park, Jokulsargljufur National Park, Askja, Lake Myvatn, Veidivotn and Fjallabak Nature Reserve. We'll spend the first couple of nights by the glacial lagoon in the Southeast, then travel eastwards and round to the Northeast. We'll be based by Lake Myvatn for a few nights, from where we'll do excursions into the highland north of Vatnajokull. We'll also visit geothermal areas around Myvatn, Jokulsargljufur with its waterfalls, Dettifoss and Selfoss, Godafoss and then the last two nights will be spent at the Highland hotel in Hrauneyjar. giving us an opportunity to visit the Veidivotn region.
This photography tour will last for 10 days (9 nights). We will be staying in good hotels (en suite). There will be some moderate hiking on uneven ground.
The cost for the tour is $5500 US. This is an all-inclusive price, but excluding your airfare to Keflavik, Iceland. From the moment the workshop begins until its end, 10 days later, all costs are included — transportation, food, drinks (excluding alcoholic beverages), and accommodation, which is based on two person to a room (single supplement is available for a $700 additional charge). No tipping is required.
Payments are made in two installments. A deposit of $1,500 must be made within 2 weeks of registration. The balance of $4,000 is due by March 15, 2010. Please note that while spouses are welcome, this really is a trip devoted to photography, and non-photographers are likely not to appreciate the pace and timetable that we'll be keeping. Spouses attending will pay full price regardless of their level of participation.
