Birds and Nature in Iceland
with Daniel Bergmann

22 June to 1 July 2009 - SOLD OUT

This workshop is about photographing in the field. There will be no classroom sessions, no lectures and no slide shows. Participants and the group leaders will work side by side, sharing their knowledge, vision, philosophy and experience. A small group of participants guarantees that the workshop leader is available to work with each on a personal level, if requested. This is a unique opportunity to travel and shoot Iceland's top nature photographer, which knows the country intimately and can take you to the best photography locations that are off the beaten track, and at the right time – when the light is at its best. Iceland borders the Arctic Circle and receives more than 20 hours of daylight at this time of the year. Shooting in Iceland in summer can therefore be hard work and challenging, but great fun and very rewarding. It is an adventure unlike any other!

We will be travelling through the Western and Southern parts of the country, going as far east as to Vatnajokull Glacier. Locations visited will include the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Latrabjarg bird cliff (the world's largest), Floi Nature Reserve, Skaftafell National Park, Ingolfshofdi seabird colony and Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon.

The bird species we will photograph include Atlantic Puffin, Razorbill, Black Guillemot, Common Guillemot (murre), Brünnich Guillemot (thick-billed murre), Arctic Tern, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Great Skua, Arctic Skua, Red-necked Phalarope, Red-throated Diver (loon), Black-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel and possibly many more. Although the emphazis is on birds and general nature, including Arctic wildflowers, we will have many opportunities for landscape photography along the way, including by some of Iceland's most photogenic waterfalls and glaciers.

This workshop will last for 10 days (9 nights). We will be staying in good hotels (en suite). There will be moderate hiking on uneven ground. A telephoto lens with a reach of 400mm or greater is required.

The cost for this workshop is $4900 US. This is an all-inclusive price, but excluding your airfare to Iceland. What is included is transportation, food, drinks (excluding alcoholic beverages), tuition and accommodation, which is based on two persons sharing a room. Single supplement is possible for an additional $500. Payments are made in two installments. A deposit of $1,500 must be made within 2 weeks of registration. The balance of $3,400 is due by March 15th, 2009.
